103 Investigating Whether Coronal Alignment Changes at the Knee Joint After Medial Opening Wedge High Tibial Osteotomy Influences the Coronal Alignment Changes at the Hip Joint

Abstract Aim High tibial osteotomy (HTO) is used as an effective treatment for varus knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, the biomechanical relationship between hip and important. An observation was made by senior author of this paper that patients reported a change in their function after medial opening wedge high (MOWHTO). The effect MOWHTO on joint has not been well documented. Therefore, we analysed coronal alignment changes at MOWHTO. Method We retrospectively lower limbs imaging who underwent OA. Pre-operative follow up standing bilateral full leg length anteroposterior radiographs were taken. proximal angle (MPTA) mechanical axis deviation (MAD) measured to assess knee. evaluated using greater trochanter (MGTA). Results After exclusion criteria applied 31 osteotomies 29 included study. A positive correlation MPTA MAD with MGTA found. had stronger than (r = 0.749 vs 0.589). It found age, weight, height, BMI little influence these correlations. Conclusions Increased correction lead increased hip. These are likely result alteration weight bearing portion femoral head abductors.
